Today’s itinerary – 20 miles, 1300ft of climbing and 0 ferries.

Today was another short day. The route further north to Inverness requires either riding on very busy roads or a lot of off road riding. Since we were on road bikes we decided the route to Inverness wouldn’t work for us this year so instead we decided to get a train to Rannoch. Rannoch is on the Sustrans route from Inverness to Glasgow and is a stunning route taking in all the lochs!
We left the field, walked over the road to the most amazing cafe for a fantastic breakfast! Then as was standard we started the next climb and we were rewarded with another stunning coastline.
Andrew’s field Cafe Tioram, Acharacle Another climb completed, feeling hot! Glenuig Glenuig beach
Unfortunately the mid-day train only had one bike space so we had to wait to get the train until 4:30pm, meaning we had to then get a taxi at the other end.
Lesson Learnt – There are many more bike spaces on Scotrail trains than are bookable, we probably would have been fine getting the earlier train.
Time to catch the train to Rannoch Moor Glenfinnan viaduct Loch Rannoch Hotel – an interlude of luxury
I’d stayed at the Loch Rannoch Hotel a couple of times with my Mum on other cycling tours, its a special place with beautiful views. It had recently been renovated so we enjoyed a night of luxury. To be honest just having chairs to sit on was nice!!
